Ghillie tie shoes, despite the obscure name, are maybe the shoe of the season. Well, ghillies and espadrilles, as we previously wrote. Ghillie ties come in all shapes and sizes – platform, wedge, flat, sandal, stiletto, kitten, you name it. Not sure what exactly a “ghillie tie” is? Read on to enlighten yourselves and excite your feet.
The “ghillie” is a centuries-old type of shoe of celtic origin. They are widely used as a shoe in Irish and Scottish dancing, and are, at their most simple, a shoe without a tongue that is tied through loops rather than eyelets.
Fashion is having a bit of a love affair with ankles right now. You can see it in ankle-tie espadrilles, midi skirts, cute sheer ankle socks and, now, in the ghillie. Bloggers and designers alike love them, and they are one of those rare trends that is actually easy to wear (rejoice!) – they’ve even been dubbed the new ballet flat by some thanks to their ease, comfort and versatility.
The best way to wear them? How ever you want! Check out some of our faves below – we won’t tell if you treat yourself to a pair (or three)…
